‘FULL HOUSE FOR JOHNY’S DAY OUT’
Mardons Social Club would like to say a huge thank you to Tom, Sam, Lewis and Alex of Johny’s Day Out for their sensationalShowcase Night performance on April 23rd. Local lads, Johny’s Day Out were Winners of The 2009 Somerset Guardian Battle of The Bands and also Winners of 2009 Midsomer Norton Mardi Gras …so we had high expectations. The club was near its capacity (if not at it) and the age range of the audience couldn’t have been greater - yet Johny’s Day Out managed to please everyone. Impressively covering popular songs and interleaving them with their own well crafted material. Their obvious enjoyment of performing live and playing great music was infectious. Their more mellow half-time accoustic set was equally impressive, with an excellent, stripped down cover of Deep Blue Something’s eighties hit ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’, a surprising but well recieved choice.
From the off, they far exceeded their reputation. Enthusiastically launching into their set and playfully interacting with the younger members of their audience - who quickly got to their feet and danced along.
One of the many highlights of the night was the performance of the bands self penned ‘Running’, an obvious fan favourite with a quirky bit of tuneful whistling thrown in for good measure.
Musically they were note perfect and the strong vocals excellent, a real feel good band, that we will definitely be seeing perform at the club in the future
…why hadn’t we booked them before???!!!
A perfect ending to a glorious summer day!
